Hal Leonard Australia Launches The 'Exam Finder'

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - Featuring the syllabuses of AMEB, Hal Leonard Australia are excited to release their new ‘Exam Finder’. This new online database allows people to select their instrument or syllabus and grade, and then the finder will then show a list of works for that syllabus, and the publications in which they can be found! You’ll also find extensive information on each publication including image, description, contents (when available), closer look functionality (sample pages – when available) and live availability in Australia.

The manual list is a gold mine of magnificent music; masterworks by the great composers, standard repertoire, quirky collections and Australian classics. Every piano teacher probably agrees that whilst we would like to have all of the collections in our music libraries, we need to consider the limitations of space and cost. So, which are the very best collections to choose? Which collections represent great value for money and can be used year after year as a student progresses through the grades and their repertoire expands?

We’ve seen great commentary from Elissa Milne, Tim Topham, Angela Turner, Thembi Shears and Carly McDonald amongst others about making the most of the manual list, particularly from AMEB. Teachers were sometimes challenged in sourcing the correct editions hence this is why Hal Leonard Australia embarked on this massive project. And not just for piano but all instruments/syllabuses!

Larry Farnan, manager of this project, commented, “This powerful engine has been built over many years, by a team of specialists reviewing, assessing and collating a vast range of data to be presented in one, convenient place. The first stage of this project took ten full months to complete and since then, this team, located at Hal Leonard’s Melbourne office, have been working to update and improve the data to be as accurate as possible.”

While every effort has been made in regards to syllabus accuracy, this is a tool to assist teachers and the general public in choosing publications for examination. This is not an official examination body page, so as a result, if you have any queries regarding examinations, you should contact the examination body directly.
